Easy Miracles of the Bible

On which body of water did Jesus walk out to his disciples in the fourth watch of the night?

  1. AThe Sea of GalileeCorrect
  2. BThe Jordan River
  3. CThe Dead Sea
  4. DThe Mediterranean Sea

Answer: The Sea of Galilee

Matthew 14:25 · ESV

The disciples were crossing the Sea of Galilee when Jesus came to them walking on the water late in the night. Treading the waves is something Scripture ascribes to God alone, so the act is a claim about who Jesus is and not merely a rescue from the wind. Matthew marks the hour as the fourth watch, near dawn, after a night of rowing against a headwind.

Matthew 14:24-25 sets the scene on the lake the disciples were crossing.

Why not this one. The Jordan is where Jesus was baptized and where Naaman washed, but the walking on the water happened out on the open lake in Galilee, far from land.

Medium Miracles of the Bible

What miracle occurred when the dead man’s body touched Elisha’s bones?

  1. AThe man came back to life.Correct
  2. BThe man's bones were immediately healed.
  3. CThe man was cleansed of leprosy.
  4. DThe man received a vision of heaven.

Answer: The man came back to life.

2 Kings 13:21 · ESV

Raiders interrupted a burial, and the body was thrown into Elisha's grave. On touching the prophet's bones the man revived and stood up. It is the last thing recorded of Elisha, and it happens after his death — a closing sign that the power at work in him was never his own.

2 Kings 13:20–21.

Why not this one. Nothing in the account is about healing bones. The bones in the story are Elisha's, not the dead man's.

Hard Miracles of the Bible

How many times was Naaman told to dip himself in the Jordan?

  1. ASevenCorrect
  2. BThree
  3. CTen
  4. DTwelve

Answer: Seven

2 Kings 5:10 · ESV

Elisha's messenger told him to wash seven times, and when he finally obeyed, his flesh was restored like that of a little child. The number matches the pattern of sevenfold cleansing in the law and marks the healing as an act of God rather than a treatment. His servants had urged him to obey, pointing out that he would gladly have done something difficult had it been asked.

2 Kings 5:10-14 gives the instruction and the seventh dipping.

Why not this one. Three is the count elsewhere, as when Elijah stretched himself over the widow's son or had water poured on Carmel, but Naaman was told seven.

Easy Miracles of the Bible

What did God provide each morning to feed Israel in the wilderness?

  1. AMannaCorrect
  2. BBarley loaves
  3. CFigs
  4. DHoneycomb

Answer: Manna

Exodus 16:14-15 · ESV

Manna appeared with the morning dew, a fine flake-like substance Israel gathered daily for forty years. The people named it from their own question about what it was, and it taught them that life depends on the word and provision of God rather than on their own storehouses.

Exodus 16:14-15 describes the morning provision and the name Israel gave it.

Why not this one. Barley loaves belong to the feeding miracles of Elisha and of Jesus, not to the wilderness; Israel gathered manna, which had to be collected fresh each morning.

Medium Miracles of the Bible

In which village did Jesus raise Lazarus from the tomb?

  1. ABethanyCorrect
  2. BBethphage
  3. CBethsaida
  4. DBethlehem

Answer: Bethany

John 11:1 · ESV

Lazarus lived in Bethany with his sisters Mary and Martha, a village near Jerusalem, and it was there that Jesus called him out of the tomb after four days. The nearness to the city is part of why the raising hardened the council against Jesus. Jesus had deliberately stayed two days longer where he was after hearing that Lazarus was ill.

John 11:1 names the village, and John 11:18 places it near Jerusalem.

Why not this one. Bethphage lies alongside Bethany on the Mount of Olives and is named in the triumphal entry, but the raising of Lazarus took place at Bethany.

Hard Miracles of the Bible

What miracle did Elisha perform with 20 loaves of barley?

  1. AHe fed 100 men, and there was food left over.Correct
  2. BHe fed 50 men, and there was food left over.
  3. CHe fed 200 men, and there was food left over.
  4. DHe fed 70 men, and all ate until they were full.

Answer: He fed 100 men, and there was food left over.

2 Kings 4:42–44 · ESV

A man brought Elisha twenty barley loaves from the firstfruits during a famine, and Elisha told his servant to set it before a hundred men. The servant objected that it could not go round; Elisha repeated the LORD's word that they would eat and have some left, and they did. It is the pattern Jesus' feedings later fill out on a far larger scale.

2 Kings 4:42–44.

Why not this one. Fifty is a common round number in these narratives — the companies Elijah faced, the sons of the prophets — but the text says a hundred.

Easy Miracles of the Bible

What did Lot's wife become when she looked back toward Sodom?

  1. AA pillar of saltCorrect
  2. BA pillar of stone
  3. CA pillar of ash
  4. DA pillar of cloud

Answer: A pillar of salt

Genesis 19:26 · ESV

Warned not to look behind her as the cities were overthrown, Lot's wife looked back and became a pillar of salt. Jesus made her a standing warning against the divided heart that flees judgment while still longing for what is being judged. The angels had urged the family to escape to the hills without stopping anywhere on the plain.

Genesis 19:26 records the pillar of salt, and Luke 17:32 recalls her.

Why not this one. The pillar of cloud was God's guiding presence over Israel in the wilderness, a mercy rather than a judgment, and has nothing to do with Sodom.

Medium Miracles of the Bible

What happened to Aaron's staff when the twelve tribal staffs were left overnight in the tent of the testimony?

  1. AIt sprouted, blossomed, and bore ripe almondsCorrect
  2. BIt became a serpent
  3. CIt burst into flame and was not consumed
  4. DIt turned to iron

Answer: It sprouted, blossomed, and bore ripe almonds

Numbers 17:8 · ESV

Overnight the staff of Levi, bearing Aaron's name, put out buds, produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds, while the other eleven staffs stayed dead wood. God settled the question of priestly authority by giving life to one dry stick, and the staff was kept as a sign against further grumbling.

Numbers 17:8-10 records the budding staff and its keeping before the testimony.

Why not this one. A staff did become a serpent, but that was the sign before Pharaoh in Egypt, not the overnight test of the tribal staffs at the tent.

Hard Miracles of the Bible

At the burning bush God gave Moses three signs. What was the second?

  1. AHis hand became leprous and was restoredCorrect
  2. BHis staff became a serpent
  3. CWater from the Nile became blood on dry ground
  4. DHis face shone so that men could not look at him

Answer: His hand became leprous and was restored

Exodus 4:6-7 · ESV

Moses put his hand inside his cloak and drew it out leprous, then put it back and drew it out restored. The staff turning to a serpent came first and the water turned to blood third, given so that Israel would believe the Lord had appeared to him. If they would not believe the first two, the third was to be worked with water drawn from the river.

Exodus 4:2-9 lists the three signs in order.

Why not this one. Moses' face did shine, but only after he came down from Sinai with the tablets, long after the bush, and it was not one of the three signs given for Israel.

Easy Miracles of the Bible

How did Daniel explain his survival in the den of lions?

  1. AGod sent his angel and shut the lions' mouthsCorrect
  2. BThe lions had already been fed that day
  3. CThe king's guards held the lions back
  4. DA stone wall stood between him and the lions

Answer: God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths

Daniel 6:22 · ESV

When Darius called down to the den at dawn, Daniel answered that his God had sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths because he was found blameless before God and had done the king no wrong. The lions were not tame, as the fate of his accusers soon showed. Darius, trapped by his own irrevocable decree, had spent the night fasting and sleepless.

Daniel 6:22-24 gives Daniel's answer and what followed for his accusers.

Why not this one. The text rules this out: the same lions overpowered Daniel's accusers immediately after he was lifted out unhurt.

Medium Miracles of the Bible

In which town did Elijah raise a widow's son to life?

  1. AZarephathCorrect
  2. BShunem
  3. CNain
  4. DBethel

Answer: Zarephath

1 Kings 17:9-24 · ESV

Elijah lodged with a widow of Zarephath in Sidon during the famine, and when her son died he carried him upstairs, stretched himself over the boy, and cried to the Lord, who restored his life. Jesus later cited this widow as an example of God's mercy reaching beyond Israel. She had first been asked to feed the prophet from the last of her flour and oil.

1 Kings 17:17-24 records the raising, and Luke 4:25-26 recalls it.

Why not this one. Shunem is where a son was raised, but by Elisha for the wealthy woman who had built him a room, a later and separate account.

Hard Miracles of the Bible

Which Gospel reports two demon-oppressed men meeting Jesus in the country of the Gadarenes?

  1. AMatthewCorrect
  2. BMark
  3. CLuke
  4. DJohn

Answer: Matthew

Matthew 8:28 · ESV

Matthew names two men coming out of the tombs, while Mark and Luke follow the one who spoke and was afterward found clothed and in his right mind. Two accounts of the same event may report differently without contradiction, since naming one does not deny the other. Matthew reports pairs elsewhere too, as with the blind men outside Jericho.

Matthew 8:28-34, alongside Mark 5:1-20 and Luke 8:26-39.

Why not this one. Mark gives the fullest account, including the name Legion and the herd of pigs, but he follows a single man throughout.
